Research Focus

The research project investigates the connection between immigration and crime rates in Peru, specifically examining whether the presence of immigrants, especially Venezuelans, influences the levels and types of crime across different regions.

The study focuses on understanding if and how the migration of people into Peru—particularly from Venezuela, due to the economic and political crises there—affects crime rates. It aims to dispel or confirm common beliefs that associate rising crime with the influx of immigrants.

This research is crucial for informing public discourse and policy decisions regarding immigration and crime. By using data and visualizations, the project aims to provide a clear, evidence-based perspective that can help counter misinformation and promote a more informed understanding of the impacts of immigration on crime.

Responsibilities

I conducted a comprehensive analysis to explore the relationship between immigration into Peru and crime rates, focusing on crime types and immigrant habitation locations. I also examined trends in crime victimization in Peru over the specified years (2018-2023). I then produced a dashboard summarizing key statistics and trends, including a technical data sheet with a brief analysis.

In this project  I improved on my skills in translating complex data into accessible formats for diverse audiences. I also developed strategies for presenting technical analysis in a way that resonates with a lay audience, making the findings more understandable and actionable.
